简介:The aim of this research work is to increase the quality, productivity of steel and to reduce the CO2 emissions from the global manufacturing sector. On average, the production of one ton of steel generates about two tons of CO2 emission. The main cause for energy inefficiency and environment pollution are outdated steel production technology in use. The green steel is a new steelmaking process lowers green house gas emission, cuts costs and improves the quality of steel. The new process is known as molten oxide electrolysis and the clever use of iron-chromium alloys. When we are using molten oxide electrolysis to create oxygen from the iron in lunar soil and steel was created as a byproduct of steel. This process is limiting carbon emissions. This concept is fundamental to the triple bottom line concept of sustainability, which focuses on the interplay between environmental, social and economic factors. The production of steel results in the generation of byproducts that can reduce CO2 emissions by substituting resources in other industries. The implementation of green manufacturing focused on investigating the energy saving & CO2 emission from producing steel & effective utilization of recycling of steel scrap as a way of sustainable development in steel industry.

标题:Experimental investigations and optimization of forming force in incremental sheet forming

简介:Incremental sheet forming process has been proved to be quiet suitable and economical for job and batch type production, which exempts expensive and complex tooling for sheet forming. Investigation of forming forces becomes important for selecting the appropriate hardware and optimal process parameters in order to assure perfection and precision of process. Moreover, lack of available knowledge regarding the process parameters makes the process limited for industrial applications. This research paper aims at finding out effectsof different input factors on forming forces in single-point incremental forming (SPIF) process. For operation sustainability and hardware safety, it becomes critical to optimize forming forces for a given set of factors to form a particular shape. In this study, optimization of input factors has been performed to produce conical frustums with helical tool path using Taguchi analysis as design of experiment (DOE) and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The optimal experimental conditions for forming forces have been calculated as sheet thickness(0.8 mm), step size (0.2 mm), tool diameter (7.52 mm), tool shape (hemispherical), spindle speed (1000 rpm), feed rate (1000 mm/min) and wall angle (50 o ). Effects of tool shape and viscosity of lubricants have also been investigated. An intensive understanding of the mechanism of forming forces has been presented, which shows that force trend after peak values depends upon instant input factors that can be categorized as a safe, severe and crucial set of parameters.

标题:Has Electronic Stability Control Reduced Rollover Crashes?

简介:Vehicle rollovers are one of the more severe crash modes in the US - accounting for 32% of all passenger vehicle occupant fatalities annually. One design enhancement to help prevent rollovers is Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which can reduce loss of control and thus has great promise to enhance vehicle safety. The objectives of this research were (1) to estimate the effectiveness of ESC in reducing the number of rollover crashes and (2) to identify cases in which ESC did not prevent the rollover to potentially advance additional ESC development.
All passenger vehicles and light trucks and vans that experienced a rollover from 2006 to 2015 in the National Automotive Sampling System Crashworthiness Database System (NASS/CDS) were analyzed. Each rollover was assigned a crash scenario based on the crash type, pre-crash maneuver, and pre-crash events. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ESC availability database was matched to each NASS/CDS case vehicle by the vehicle make, model, and model year. ESC effectiveness was computed using the quasi-induced exposure method.

Diamond is 58 times harder than any natural material so it’s no wonder material scientists have been trying to harness it for industrial uses. With Sandvik’s technology, diamond composites can now be fabricated into complex forms, even parts with internal cavities.

简介:Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer by layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies. Selective Laser Melting, commercially known as Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS?), is the most diffused additive process in today’s manufacturing industry. Introduction of a DMLS? machine in a production department has remarkable effects not only on industrial design but also on production planning, for example, on machine scheduling. Scheduling for a traditional single machine can employ consolidated models. Scheduling of an AM machine presents new issues because it must consider the capability of producing different geometries, simultaneously. The aim of this paper is to provide a mathematical model for an AM/SLM machine scheduling. The complexity of the model is NP-HARD, so possible solutions must be found by metaheuristic algorithms, e.g., Genetic Algorithms. Genetic Algorithms solve sequential optimization problems by handling vectors; in the present paper, we must modify them to handle a matrix. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms will be tested on a test case formed by a 30 Part Number production plan with a high variability in complexity, distinct due dates and low production volumes.

GaN as nanomaterial have been used in many devices such as UV photodetectors, light emitting diodes, solar cells and transistors. The recent aspects of GaN based devices are presented and discussed. The performance of several devices structures which has been demonstrated on GaN is reviewed. The structural, electrical, and optical properties are also reviewed.

简介:Aiming at the on-orbit maintenance requirements of spacecraft, this paper proposed an updated type of space climbing robot that can climb onto the target spacecraft in space environment for repairing and rescuing. The robot's movement system consists of piezoelectric driving legs and micro-adhesive feet. The robot leg and body connection have two degrees of freedom, the knee joint has one degree of freedom, and the ankle joint has two degrees of freedom. In space environment with no gravity, the climbing robot can over obstacles by crawling movement and flipping movement. The clamping force of the robot is provided by the adhesion of the robot feet with microarray structure. The robot foot-end microarray adhesion structure was designed based on the multi-scale microstructure of the gecko's sole. The effects of the structural parameters, such as the contact area, length-diameter ratio, length, diameter, and density, on the adhesion characteristics of the microarrays in zero-gravity space environment were analysed. The simulation model was established using the discrete element software EDEM. The normal and tangential adhesion of the microarray in different motion modes is obtained by simulation. The simulation results demonstrate that using different ways of movement can achieve different adhesive abilities. The above conclusion supports the theory of the later achievement regarding robot feet's strong attaching and rapid detaching ability.

标题:Task Space Torque Profile Adaptations for Dynamical Human-Robot Motion Transfer

简介:Motion transfer from a human to a robot implies accurate tracking of desired, demonstrated trajectories. However, direct imitation of joint position trajectories might not result in similar behavior of the robot and the human, because they have different kinematic and dynamic properties, i.e., different embodiment. To avoid the correspondence problem, the demonstrated trajectories need to be somehow adapted. In this paper we go beyond simple imitation, but we show how the torque profiles that should execute the demonstrated position trajectories are being learned in a manner that preserves the correspondence. Thus, position trajectories are modified from the demonstration and, furthermore, the robot executes the motion that preserves correspondence in a compliant manner. Because it is compliant, the robot is safer for the nearby person or environment, as potential unforeseen collisions will result in lower impact forces. We show the results of motion transfer of squatting from a human to a simulated CoMaN humanoid robot.

The theoretical justification of chosen design was carried out on the base of comparison of combustion volumes, which formed in traditional CC with swirlers and in proposed CC. The comparison of combustion volumes, schematic display of combustion zones with a discrete flame and a combined combustion zone were given.
